Handling cash if blind or visually impaired

This is a video by Mareen, a totally blind Amercian lady, uploaded to her YouTube channel called Breaking Blind. In around three minutes she discusses how she uses various techniques, including folding different denomincation notes in different ways, using the speech facility on her iphone, in combination with an app called Note Checker, and also a dedicated, small note cheking device, which she describes as being called iNote, into which she pokes the ends of differnt bills, upon which it tells her what denomination the note is. At present I have no idea if the app, or similar can reliably serve currencies other than US dollars.

The RNIB's page, Handling Cash, refers to a variety of devices, including Note gages, chechers and detectors for both Pounds and Euros, and offers detectors in its online shop. The RNIB also refers to a method of detecting note denominations by using fingers and also £1 and Eoro coin holders available in its shop.

There is additional advice on how to determine different Euro notes, via their markeing and size and also Euro coins, via their different edge features from this European Central Bank page, here.

Please note this page is temporary and as this web site is developed the aim will be to present more useful information to carers for, colleagues of, providers to and people experience access issues.

Recommended addional information to share is welcomed.
