This from the USA echoes latest UK advice, as famously advertised with Vinnie Jones doing CPR to the tune of Staying Alive, posted earlier on this site.Child CPR (Ages 1 to 12 Years)

The following video was uploaded to YouTube by St John Ambulance, September 2012Additional notes:
The best advice given in various resources checked for this post is to do the three C's ...CHECK for obvious issues including potential danger, CALL the emergency number, then CARE for the patient. If there is more than one of you to assist, one should be calling whilst another immediately starts with CPR. There should also be a fourth C, apply COMMON SENSE.
As to what to do in a situation where you are on your own: do you call emergency services first, or first deliver a little bit of CPR in those critical seconds, before making the call? Until there are some definitive, up to the minute (given that advice changes over time) guidance, apply common sense.
There is a limit to common sense however, in that some 'best advice' may seem counter-intuitive. 'Best advice' changes over time and there is much more to first aid than just CPR. In this respect the best, 'best advice' is to stay up to date with key first aid techniques and get some training if you can.
Whilst searching extensively for quality, to the point first aid videos, time and again, those published by St John Ambulance stood out.

They have also prepared various excellent first aid apps for smartphones and tablets, and they deliver first aid training. St John Ambulance's website is at http://www.sja.org.uk/
